KIDS AND SENDIASS WORK TOGETHER

KIDS will be looking to work alongside East Riding SENDIASS which is an in-house provision commissioned by East Riding of Yorkshire council , East Riding of Yorkshire Parent/Carer forum, TYLER (The Young Leaders of East Riding) in establishing these services in the East Riding.

Just to update you moving forward Mike Loftus will be working in East Riding as a SENDIASS practitioner, Shelley Marlow will now only be providing the advocacy element of this project. Shelley will be providing a handover and introductions for Mike to families and stakeholders.

Our East Riding YPEG coordinator will be starting on 18th May.

April 2020: A message from KIDS:

KIDS Yorkshire are pleased to share with you that from 1st April that East Riding of Yorkshire Council have commissioned KIDS to provide the children and young people information, advice and support service with advocacy.

The intention of the service is to provide children and young people up to 25 years old with information and advice about the law on SEND, local policy and practice and about the assessment process for an EHC plan, alongside including matters relating to health and social care. The services also provides young people, with independent advocacy, signposting to specialist support to help them prepare for employment, independent living and participation in society. The Children and Young People’s Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provides free, impartial, confidential advice to children and young people with SEND. We have just launched our new Facebook page – ERY Children and YP Sendiass and you can read more on our KIDS East Riding Sendiass web page.

We are also pleased to announce that recruitment has begun for the new National Lottery Community Funded Young Person’s Participation Group. This is our new project for disabled children and young people in the Bridlington area called ‘Hear our Voice’ – supporting disabled children and young people (aged 14-25 years) to have an influence on decision makers and shape services. Our aim is that young people’s voices will be recognised, valued, in the planning, delivery and monitoring of services and resources and ensuring that young disabled people they have the opportunity to make informed decisions about matters that affect them and enable them to lead more ordinary lives.

Due to the present situation with COV-19 KIDS continue to be committed to supporting children, young people and families especially during this difficult time and we are adjusting our services to ensure we can do this. The Children and Young People’s SENDIASS will be offering a telephone and online offer to reach out to young people offering information, advice and support during this. We are also beginning the development of our Young Person’s Participation Group- ‘Hear our Voice’ Project and initially this will also be a telephone and online offer initially.

“KIDS are here to listen and offer information & advice along with practical and emotional support. Our staff are trained to help around a range of different matters, from school advice to supporting young people to have a voice in matters and decisions that are important to them. We know this is a worrying time for you and your family and information is changing daily but we will try and help you find solutions and, where we can, answers to questions.”

If we miss a call we will phone you back! At a later date, when restrictions lift KIDS hope to open a base within Bridlington, more details will follow when this is possible.
